Skateboarding is a tool for social change and a form of self-expression. With it's unique cultural styles, we use Skateboarding to empower youth and promote positive change.

Mission

Isaac and Elvis with the kids

What impact had Kampala Skateboard Initiative had on the local community in terms of deterring drug use and gangs coupled with poverty?Educationally- Kampala Skateboard Initiative offers free workshops to educate skaters on proper techniques, safety gears and responsible skating practices.
As well as paying tuition for formal education for program participants.
Diversity - We welcome skaters from all backgrounds, gender, ages and culture. Initiatives were launched to showcase the diverse faces of Skateboarding and celebrate its INCLUSIVE nature.Community Engagement - Kampala Skateboard Initiative fostered local youths to create a sense of belonging and camaraderie among themselves. This helps to combat known risk factors of drug use, gang lifestyle and poverty.

Skateboarding training sessions and out reach programs have been used to bring youths together, promote diversity and provide a positive outlet for self expression.Ultimately, the founders and proponents of using Skateboarding as a tool for social change were inspired by it's ability to transcend traditional boundaries, break down barriers and provide sense of belonging to those who might have felt marginalized. The sports inherent freedom, individuality and the sense of accomplishment that comes with mastering tricks all contribute to its potential to drive positive change and empowerment.

Vision

We use Skateboarding as a change agent to empower youths and promote positive change. It is a deterrent factor used to combat drug use, gang/violent lifestyles and poverty in underserved communities that we come from.Initiating with the goal of producing access to Skateboarding, the emphasis on creativity and sense of community made skateboarding an ideal platform for addressing the above stated, social issues. Skateboarding fosters inclusivity and empowerment for our marginalized group of "ghetto" youth.

SkateLikeAGirl_Au - Bec Walker

Mrs. Bec Walker of SkateLikeAGirl_Au established fundraising accounts and gathered equipment where we consistently raise donations. As of today we have gathered over $2000 in cash equipment. These donations help us drive our mission forward and has been instrumental in our continued success.

OnDeck Alliance - Josh Cunningham

Collaboration with On Deck Alliance (O.D.A) founded by Josh from Toledo, Ohio has brightened our path; we have been able to interact and grow ideas of how to run Skateboarding with kids. Making and printing collaboration shirts has been done with the help of On Deck Alliance.
